A Brief History of Miller Kitchen Clocks

Circular Design

The founders of Spaulding China Co. were Morris Feinberg and Irving Miller of New York City. Prior to WWII they had a company in New York that produced Miller 8 Day Clocks mainly for the kitchen. They had purchased a small pottery in Sebring, Ohio to make the china faceplates for their 8 Day Wall Clocks. The clock had a china faceplate and a brass movement. With the outbreak of the war effort all brass was needed for military production. As a result, the Miller Clock Co. ceased to operate. Clay wasn't an essential material for the war effort and with Japan the major producer of china novelties now not available in the USA there was a need for stateside based production. Morris and Irving pivoted from the metal clock business to artware pottery and started the Spaulding China Co. Here is one of my recent finds this week. I'll also share photos of my other Miller 8 Day Clocks in the Gallery. Any other Miller Clock collectors?
